Beautiful portrait of emperor wearing forkshaped beard being crowned by Christ, who stands to the emperors right. This indicates that in this case Christ is subservient to the Emperor, in that the figure on the left hand side is normally the dominant one. This is a very large philosophical divergence from normal Byzantine theology, which maintains that the Emperor derives his power on Earth from God and Christ.
