Coptic Bone Pin or Applicator Stick, ca. 3rd-6th Century AD. This bone pin may have been used to fasten a cloak or, alternatively, as an applicator stick for eye makeup. The decoration of the handle, which consists of rounded bands and twisting incised lines, may imitate a twisted rope, tied at irregular intervals resulting in rounded, bulging bands. Both ends are slightly chipped. Ex Harlan J. Berk, Ltd. Buy or Bid Sale 144, 13 July 2005, lot 635. L. 4 1/2 (11.4 cm)..
